NaviSite, Inc., a leading provider of cloud-enabled enterprise-hosting and application-management services, today announced the successful deployment of content delivery network (CDN) services for Women for Women International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women overcome the devastating effects of war and poverty. With close to two decades of operation, Women for Women International has raised and distributed millions of dollars, and in recent years has leveraged the Internet as a significant part of its overall fundraising strategy. Its website (www.womenforwomen.org) describes the Women for Women International programs that support its overall mission, while also serving as a donation mechanism, which is managed by a certified financial institution.

Women for Women International knew from previous experience that its upcoming appearance on a popular, nationally syndicated talk show could generate performance-degrading traffic spikes. The organization’s larger concern was that it was impossible to predict, with any degree of accuracy, the amount of traffic the television exposure would generate. Women for Women International would receive only a few days’ notice of its appearance, and did not know how much airtime it would receive. Overbuilding to meet nonexistent demand would consume a lot of already tight resources, but failing to meet demand would be even more devastating.

With a very tight deadline and uncertainty about its requirements, Women for Women International turned to NaviSite, its trusted Managed Web Hosting provider. NaviSite quickly deployed a CDN — in just a few days — ensuring that everything was up and running by the morning of the television broadcast.

“We were very pleased with the response we got from the entire NaviSite team,” says Nicole Weaver, CIO of Women for Women International. “They provided us options and guidance from simply adding servers to the existing website platform, to recommending a content delivery network solution to offload resource overhead and push much of the main site content closer to users. This not only improved overall performance, but helped preserve the availability of content crucial to delivering the donation sections and other interactive website components. We were going full steam from about 10 o’clock in the morning of the show and became the number one or top Google search term for that day. We never went off-line and never suffered any serious degradation. The result was our largest spike in donations, which remain at historic levels. We couldn’t have done it without NaviSite.”

“NaviSite’s extensive experience, global footprint, and full suite of dedicated server and managed-hosting offerings and options make us an obvious choice for nonprofit organizations, as well as small and medium sized businesses,” said Sumeet Sabharwal, Senior Vice President of SMB Hosting, NaviSite. “We were excited to help Women for Women International handle the historic demand generated by the profile of its noble efforts to improve the lives of women.”

NaviSite offers a comprehensive suite of cloud-enabled managed-hosting solutions — including database management; server management; virtualization; disaster recovery; remote monitoring; and network and security services — designed to meet customers’ IT management needs and maximize uptime and efficiency.

Chicago-based managed web-hosting provider, Each of SingleHop’s two data centers will feature 40 gigabits of network connectivity. The upgrades are planned to be completed over the next several months.

The increases in IP traffic connectivity are part of the network upgrades that SingleHop has been performing since February of this year, and focused on establishing a powerful platform that can encompass future growth without any sacrifices.

Andy Pace, VP of Operations for SingleHop, mentioned that the new “IP capacity gives all SingleHop clients tremendously increased capabilities, especially during peak traffic time, and provides an additional layer of protection from denial of service (DDoS) saturation attacks. In the end, though, it provides our entire network with a solid foundation for future growth without having to sacrifice performance at all”.

Managed web-hosting provider SingleHop, today announced the opening of a new data center. The new space marks the hosting provider’s second data center and is part of SingleHop’s aggressive expansion. The facility has top of the line specifications in redundancy, security, connectivity, and cooling systems. The facilities’ power, UPS system, and HVAC systems are rated at a minimum of N+2, which means that for each system, there are two independent backups that ensure ongoing functionality were the original system to fail.

Some specifications of SingleHop’s new data center include:

-10,000 square feet of initial, raised-floor data center space
-210 watts of power capacity per square foot
-Up to 12 kilowatts of power per cabinet
-Laser-based early fire detection system (VESDA)
-24-hour security: bullet-resistant security area, level III walls & doors, keycard & biometric ID
-On-site NOC staffed 24/7/365 by SingleHop technicians

All current and future customers will benefit from SingleHop’s data center expansion. “The additional space enables geographic redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities,” said Brandon Ewing, SingleHop’s Senior Network Engineer. “Customers will benefit as they have more room for growth and more options for redundancy. The new data center gives SingleHop a platform from which to continue heavily investing in a wide and robust network both at our original data center and the new facility,” Ewing added.

According to Zak Boca, SingleHop’s President and CEO, “the data center space at the new facility allows us to locate our client’s servers in one of the most technologically advanced facilities, not only in the Chicago area, but world-wide. We have superb redundancy, connectivity, fire and cooling systems that we can depend on. This facility wasn’t refit, or re-engineered. It was built entirely from the ground up to anticipate high server density. It allows for our company to use all of our space, and power. With 48U cabinets and the ability to more than adequately handle 12KW per cab, we’ll waste less money and resources, which in turn will keep our clients from paying for inefficiencies.”

For the new data center, SingleHop entered into a $2.5 Million agreement with collocation provider ServerCentral, which operates this facility within DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc’s (NYSE:DFT) facility in Elk Grove Village, IL

Jordan Lowe, President and CEO of ServerCentral, said the company is excited to expand their relationship with SingleHop. “Our support of SingleHop’s physical and operational infrastructure is a great example of how ServerCentral offers customers a unique value proposition. The combination of DuPont Fabros’ top-notch facility and our onsite staff’s expertise in hosting infrastructure give SingleHop a decided advantage in the Chicago market,” Lowe added.

Web Hosting — Chicago-based managed web-hosting provider, SingleHop, Inc., announced today the release of the industry’s most advanced rescue console Server Bailout System. The Server Bailout System allows for clients to boot servers into a troubleshooting environment to address issues such as password resets, virus removal, Windows registry editing, file restoration and more. The Server Bailout System is available for both Linux and Windows based systems and can be accessed directly within LEAPwebtop.

The system has the ability to:

* Restore a server in the event that it is hacked or compromised.
* Copy files out of the failed server into a safe location through FTP.
* Run diagnostics on the hard-drive.
* Under Windows, edit the registry.
* Under Linux, install third party applications.

“Outsourcing hosting has its disadvantages, namely in that the client generally loses control over key systems. Our goal is to counter that by arming SingleHop clients with an array of tools and features that allow for them to remain in control. The Server Bailout System empowers clients when things go wrong to troubleshoot issues, rather than unnecessarily having to reload the operating system, or wait for a technician to troubleshoot the server,” says Zak Boca, President and CEO of SingleHop.

Taking a queue from the current and questionably ineffective corporate bailouts, SingleHop “chose to create a bailout that really does work,” as Daniel Salcedo, Communications Manger for SingleHop, put it when asked about the unusual name.

Luke Tworek, one of the lead developers, commented that, “to use, customers simply access their LEAP account and open the program right off of the web-desktop. In less than a minute they will have access to the server and can start working on troubleshooting any issues even when the hard-drive is unresponsive or severe errors have occurred. We are very excited about this new program, both in terms of making our technicians more efficient and continuing to empower our clients.”

Dedicated Server Reviews – Chicago-based managed web hosting provider, SingleHop, Inc., today announced unprecedented revenue and client-base growth, resulting in gross revenues increasing a staggering 673% in 2008 when compared to 2007. The home grown local company has two locations in the downtown area, and customers represented in over 40 countries worldwide. SingleHop was founded in 2006 and currently has recurring revenues of 4.5 million, making it one of the fastest growing startups in Chicago, and the fastest growing web hosting firm in Illinois.

“Many factors contributed to our growth, one of which being our selection of Chicago as a home base. The talent pool here is outstanding, and existing infrastructures for high-tech companies like ours to flourish already exist,” says Zak Boca, President and CEO of SingleHop.

The company, founded in late 2006, started turning a profit in August of 2008, which can be attributed to investments made in automated systems, power-efficient servers (which have reduced energy costs) and naturally occurring organic growth.

Some growth metrics include:

• Entering 2009 with annual recurring revenue of more than $ 4.5 million

• Staff increases of OVER 600% % from 2007 to 2008. The company expects to add an additional 15 jobs in the first half of 2009 in Chicago

• More than 1,500 servers deployed and in production

• More than 800 individual customers representing over 40 countries world-wide

• GAAP profitability achieved in the 3rd quarter of 2008

2008 was also a big year for SingleHop in terms of developing and deploying new technologies, including the LEAP webtop, announced just before HostingCon 2008, and advanced automatic server provisioning (AASP). 2009 plans include the deployment of SingleHop.mobi, an iPhone application for server management, LEAP Developer API, and the opening of a new data center facility.

“Despite the economic downturn, we are going to move forward with additional investments in our development and our customer service departments. We’re hopeful that 2009 will be another fruitful year for us,” adds Zak Boca.
